At the Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo, Simon Berger presented three portraits and a performance dedicated to the Mirabal sisters. The three sisters resisted the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. After years of political activism, arrests and imprisonment, they were murdered by the regime, which at first tried to conceal their deaths. Today they are known around the world as symbols of resistance against dictatorship and against violence towards women.

For the portraits, Berger used AI to merge photographs and sculptures of the sisters, so that their features appear slightly anonymised. The works honour the Mirabal sisters and, at the same time, all women who have experienced violence.

The exhibition Linking Worlds was part of the first edition of FIACI, which brought more than 80 local and international artists to Santo Domingo. It focused on newer forms of artistic expression such as performance and NFTs, while the fair also paid tribute to Dominican artists who have shaped the country's art history.
