Solo Exhibition

As a child, Simon Berger dreamed of becoming an architect. Monuments, his first solo exhibition in Portugal, returns to that dream. It pays tribute to some of the defining figures of modern and contemporary architecture, among them Mies van der Rohe, Jean Nouvel, Peter Zumthor and Zaha Hadid.

Architecture runs through the exhibition twice: in the motifs and in the material. Alongside his works in fractured glass, Berger presented three new installations made of glass blocks, a material often found in Swiss architecture of the 1980s. For these, he exchanged the hammer for a sandblaster and carved his motifs into the bricks, exploring three-dimensionality, light and shadow.

Monuments became a tribute to these architects that reaches beyond the buildings they left behind.
