A MATTER OF METAMORPHOSIS
Sala Espositiva di Casarsa della Delizia, IT
12 April – 27 July 2025
Solo Exhibition, Curated by Sandrine Welte and Pasquale Lettieri
Casarsa della Delizia is where Pier Paolo Pasolini's mother was born, where he spent formative years as a young poet, and where he is buried. In 2025, fifty years after his death, the town honoured him with an exhibition of contemporary art – and with it a writer Pasolini himself had called upon: “Kafka, we need Kafka”, he wrote in 1951.
Simon Berger's works take up themes from Kafka's The Metamorphosis: solitude, alienation and a sense of disconnection. Through fractured glass, Berger gives these themes a physical form, in a dialogue between past and present.
The exhibition was conceived as a journey through transformation, isolation and hope. At its heart stood an immersive setting of freestanding glass panels and technological elements, in the town's former council chamber, a space designed by the architect Gino Valle.
A Matter of Metamorphosis was part of TrasformARTI: Art as a Tool to Imagine the Future, a cultural project exploring change in society.
